You can get almost anything online and that is the problem. In the U.S., Rep. Mary Bono Mack wants to put limits on the selling of “prescription drugs” online. Her concern is that these drugs have been being sold without a prescription.

In a 2004 Government Accountability Study, 68 samples of 11 different drugs, including narcotics and those with special safety restrictions, were obtained online. The study found that some online pharmacies supplied drugs based on the answers to their own questionnaire or without a prescription.

Earlier this week Bono Mack introduced legislation that would stop online pharmacies from selling these drugs without a valid prescription. While one wonders what the situation is like now as the study was done so long ago, this is obviously a situation that should be addressed. Web host and domain registar Go Daddy has become involved and is backing the legislation.

“This is about young kids who use their parents’ credit card, tell them they are buying music or video games and instead stock the weekly party with enough ecstasy for them and all their friends,” a Go Daddy lawyer said.
