Putting out the fire

July 15th, 2009

This blog has been under a fair amount of criticism lately: inaccurate information, censorship etc…

siri

There are a few things that I would like to address.

1) The comments:

There is no censorship being done on this blog. I had no control on where the comments go until this became an issue and I decided to look into it. Currently, in order to post a comment, you have to register to the forums. Then your comment is sent to moderators. For some reason, the information was never relayed to me. (I say for some reason because I don’t want to blame the moderators!lol).

Anyway, I want to get more control over the comments so that I don’t miss any. I have asked the technical staff to look into the issue. For now, please restrain from using the comments link, rather send me a direct email.

2) The inaccurate information:

There are at least two posts which were criticized for being incorrect.

a) The Firefox exploit:

ff

As you can see, I made an edit to clarify the matter. Also, it is true that with Firefox 3.5 I showed there was an exploit (the fact that it came from an out of date flash component was irrelevant to me as what I wanted to show that the sense of security from the latest browser did not matter.)

b) Italian Malware:

mj

This malware is not from Italy but from Netherlands as I was told.

However, my interpreation was that the social engineering part was in Italian. (La verita sulla morte di…) hence the title of the post “Michael Jackson malware in Italian” as in Italian language, idioma whatever…

Anyway, I’m sorry that some of the information was misleading and I will make a point to triple validate my sources before posting.

I do hope that some readers still find the information provided in this blog worthy. I can take positive criticism and make it a better content, but I really don’t care about all the hatred. I have better things to do than fighting a pointless battle.
