Dancho Danchev and his (not so nice) fan club
Security Researcher Dancho Danchev is known for his very detailed studies on rogueware and scareware (at least in the security industry). But it appears that he has some unwanted, to say the least, fans.
In a recent blog posting, Danchev talks about how his “name is now an integral part of the scareware business model.” Black-hat SEOs are using his name (Dancho) in the URLs for their campaign. Sometimes it is just to say “Hi”, sometimes it is quite nasty, and I will spare you that one.
It is good to remember that the bad guys are well informed. We’ve known for quite some time how they love to use whatever is making the headlines in order to craft social engineering attacks to deliver malware. But they are also well versed in technology news, as for example the Conficker gang taking advantage of the new MD6 technology. They also keep an eye on the security blogosphere and I’m sure must enjoy seeing their name or how much trouble they are causing.
Danchev does not seem to be bothered though, as he just posted Part 21 of his portofolio on fake security software exposing this time Pandora Software down to a Google map!
Keep up the good work Dancho!
Jerome
